Adult Improvers Cycling Course

Welcome to the Adult Improvers Cycle Course, and well done for taking the next step towards riding with greater confidence.

This course is designed for adults who can already ride a bike, but want to feel more confident and capable when cycling on the road or in traffic. You might be comfortable riding off‑road or on quiet paths, but find roads, junctions, or vehicles challenging—or you may simply want clearer skills and understanding to ride more independently.

What This Course Focuses On

The main aim of this course is to help you feel calm, in control, and informed when riding on the road. We’ll focus on:

  • Confident starts, stops, and controlled riding
  • Effective braking and hazard awareness
  • Clear signalling and communication with other road users
  • Understanding road positioning and space
  • Approaching junctions and road features safely
  • Building confidence around traffic at a pace that suits you

Everything is taught step by step, with clear explanations and supported practice. We won’t rush, and you’ll never be asked to do anything you’re not ready for.

How We’ll Work

We’ll begin by assessing current skills in a safe area, then gradually build towards road‑based riding as appropriate. Coaching will be tailored to your ability and goals, whether you’re preparing for short local journeys, commuting, or leisure rides.

You’ll be encouraged to:

  • Ask questions
  • Practise techniques at your own pace
  • Build confidence through understanding, not pressure

By the End of the Course, You May:

  • Feel more confident riding on the road
  • Have clearer awareness of traffic and road positioning
  • Communicate more effectively with other road users
  • Ride with greater control, confidence, and independence

Everyone progresses differently, and that’s expected. Confidence grows through practice and support—and that’s exactly what this course provides.

Let’s start by getting comfortable on our bikes and seeing where everyone is today.
